This article suggests that, in the domain of geochemistry, journals based on the Gold Open Access model do not manage to establish a positive interrelationship between their impact factor levels and the number of articles published, even though their article processing charges (APCs) range from 0 USD to approximately 2,500 USD in 2018. In contrast, hybrid Open Access journals have been found to demonstrate a positive relation between their impact factor metrics and the number of articles published in the same period, despite the predominant clustering of their APCs in the range between 2,000 USD and 4,000 USD.
