This survey-based study has explored the range of funding sources available to faculty members in humanities and social sciences to cover Open Access publishing costs as well as attitudes towards available institutional funds that may affect future engagement with the Open Access sector.

Tentative results from this study suggest that, in the United States, in the humanities and social sciences, publishing in Open Access journals can be less prevalent than in other scientific domains, which increases the importance of the awareness of university-level funding for article processing fees.
