Whereas this document contains laudable desiderata concerning the present and future functions that Open Science could fulfill, these critically require sustainable digital infrastructures, community-driven oversight mechanisms and associated technical services, such as for metadata management. Thus, Open Science can have not only capacity building challenges but also unintended, not always positive consequences, such as misaligned incentives, while creating obstacles for a wider adoption of Open Access models.
