It appears that the pandemic has significantly strengthened the case in favor of Open Access to research findings and data, even though this is likely to require investment into supporting infrastructures and innovative business models, such as those facilitating transitions from subscriptions to paywalled content to pay-to-publish models that both ensure access to scholarly publications and maintain quality control mechanisms.
